One yardstick by which I would judge a show is if it "grabs" my
attention from the curtain up or if my mind wanders off. I am
afraid the opening of this show left me thinking about the silent
movies. People were moving on stage, a piano played in the pit,
but, unfortunately, there were no sub-titles.
The show did pick up with the performances of Chris Dodd, Leo
Appleton and Darren Hill, the latter a young man worthy of
encouragement.
There was an excellent performance from Rita Eamshaw as
Pauline, the maid.
The four dancers were pleasing and, at least, did have smiles
on their faces which could not be said for the majority of the
cast.
The costumes and scenery were adequate but the production left
a lot to be desired.
The music, even though it was only keyboard, piano and drums
still succeeded in drowning the principals. Perhaps it is time
some of them were taught how to project their voices. (Ken
