St Annes Operatics Great Big Pajama Party
St Annes on
Sea Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society have just launched
their 2011 production - the classic Doris Day musical “The
Pajama Game”.
Rehearsals have just begun and the
society would like to invite old and new members alike to
come and join them for what promises to be a wonderful show.
The story deals with labor
troubles in a
pajama factory, where worker demands for a
seven-and-a-half cents raise are going unheeded. In the
midst of this ordeal, love blossoms between Babe, the
grievance committee head, and Sid, the new factory
superintendent. The story takes many other twists and turns
and leaves us with one big happy ending. Which is something
to make us all feel good in these times of doom and gloom.
The original Broadway production was back in 1954 and
featured the choreography of Bob Fosse. The film version
followed shortly after in 1957 and the show has seen
numerous revivals on Broadway most notably in 2006 when it
swept the board at the Tony Awards.
Comedy at its best
coupled with some well loved songs like “Racing with the
Clock”, “Hey There”, “Once a Year Day”, “Small Talk”, “Steam
Heat” and “Hernando’s Hideaway”. All combined St Annes
promise to deliver a hilarious working day at the factory!
To
get involved rehearsals take place every Thursday night from
7.30pm at the Church Road Methodist Centre on St Albans Road
in St Annes. All are most welcome. The Pajama Game will take
to the stage of Lythams Lowther Pavillion from 14th
– 18th June
2011.
